Great Simple Tips to Healthy Living

Regular Exercise. Exercise benefits every part of your life, from attitude to your cardiovascular system. Start simply, add more motion and enjoy how great you feel when you use your body. Talk to your chiropractor to get a personalized exercise program.

Get Adjusted: No surprise here, getting adjusted regularly keeps your body functioning at it’s best.  When your nervous system is communicating effectively and without interference, your body can work at its best…and heal old issues.  It’s all about optimizing your function for you best health.

Eat a Healthy Diet: Use common sense and avoid fad diets, instead focus on lifelong improvements that are sustainable. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Moderation is key, not just in eating, but also in all facets of a healthy life.
• Go Organic –organically grown foods have more nutrients and less chemicals. Start with the dirty dozen to purchase organic: strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, peaches, pears, cherries, grapes, celery, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, and potatoes.
• Eat at least five portions of vegetables and fruit a day. This reduces the risk of stroke dramatically; it reduces the risk of diabetes considerably and will reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.
• Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day.
• Consider taking a multi-vitamin, fill in the gaps by taking a high quality supplement daily, talk to your family chiropractor to find a good brand.  We love OrthoMolecular and Thorne products.
Don’t smoke. Just as exercise helps everything, smoking hurts everything.
Drink in moderation, if at all.
Get adjusted regularly, not only does it improve your nervous system’s function, it also boosts your immune system and helps you reach your health potential.
Always wear seatbelts. Just make it a habit. Use car seats for your kids.
Do something for other people. Helping others is a healing act for both you and them. A little volunteer work is a great way to keep a healthy perspective on yourself and life.
Practice stress relief. Whether it is exercise, deep breathing, a hobby, church, or meditation, find something that helps you deal with the pressures of life and work.
• Smile and Laugh. Spend time watching a favorite movie or doing something you love. Laughter releases endorphins in the body which helps us stay youthful.

• Communicate and share. Getting together with loved ones and sharing how you feel is physically and mentally rejuvenating. Feeling connected and listened to promotes a healthy centered state.
• Keep a positive mental outlook. There is a definitive connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life. Remember to smile or sing as often as possible!
“Sleep on it” Get at least seven and a half hours of sleep every night. This is the only time our bodies have to regenerate and heal. If sleep is an issue, you can look into calming herbs such as valerian, hops, lemon balm and passionflower. A nice warm cup of chamomile tea before bed may also do the trick.
Remember to live in the moment! Life is meant for living not just completing tasks and running errands. The more you live in the moment the less stress and more joy you will get out of life.

Healthy Living:
We love to share our favorite supplements and products, especially ones that can help you manage stress and live a healthier, happier life.

Let’s get moving! We live in a winter wonderland, that’s if you love the snow.  Even if you don’t, here are some great ideas to get you outside on a regular basis and enjoy it more!

1. Get outside everyday, even just for a short walk.  It can be so easy to switch to a gym or take your workouts indoors but change it up a little and set goals to enjoy being outside on a daily basis.  Your emotions will thank you as they soak up that sun for all its feel-good business.
2. Try a new sport, like downhill or cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or tubing to name a few.  The technology has improved so much in the past years that has made these sports less expensive to try, easier to learn and decrease injury risk.
3. Go sledding or tubing.  Really! When was the last time you were flying down a snow covered hill and living your life at it’s fullest while hoping you come to a safe and secure stop at the bottom of the hill? Screaming only enhances your experience.

4. Try snowshoeing.  Think winter hiking; it’s amazing and so peaceful to get into the mountains and explore.  You can rent snowshoes at REI and head up to Spruces or Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon for a great beginner trail and experience.
5. Ice Skating anyone?  When was the last time you laced up a pair of skates and soared while on water? The Gallivan Center transforms during the winter to provide an outdoor oasis for skating.
6. Buy the right gear.  There is a great saying: there is no bad weather, just bad preparation.  So add to your Christmas list heated socks, mittens, gloves, vests…and enjoy the outdoors while staying warm.
